Book Club

Tonight I'm hosting book club and this month we read the book above. I don't really know what I thought about it. Our last two books were downers, so I was hoping this would be a little more uplifting....not so much! Anyone have any recommendations on a book for next month? Oh, and I'm making this dessert tonight!

Have you read "Three Cups of Tea?" It is the story of an American mountain climber that goes to Pakistan to try and climb K2 and fails...but in doing so promises this impoverished village that he will come back and help improve their lives by building a school. I am about 2/3 through it right now and it is really fascinating...how he has to try and raise money, awareness, and then to actually *build* the school. To date, he has built 50+ schools and it is a really interesting read because it ties into so much of what is going on in the world with Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Lest you think it is too "heady," it is a Target Book Club book. :)

My mom and sister LOVED Julie and Julia. I can't vouch for it personally...it's been sitting on my bedside table for *months*. I just never seem to have time to read it!

My (now defunct) book club did much lighter fare -- Shopaholic and Baby and The Other Woman.

I just can't believe you're in a Book Club, Supper Club, and Bunco. I feel like such a slacker.

But I still read a ton at home. Sadly I've been getting my titles from Good Housekeeping - which thankfully has totally revamped their layout and I'm actually enjoying. A recent favorite has been "Broken for You" by Stephanie Kallos and "Peace Like a River" (can't remember the author).

BTW, is that the trifle with brownies soaked in kahlua? LOVE IT!

That recipe sounds AMAZING! Wish I hadn't scrolled down to see the nutritional information!

Our book club recent reads were MOLOKAI & Three Cups of tea. On a very light note I read Something Borrowed followed by Something Blue. Very light and very fun reading.

Let us know what you pick!
