Mommy hair...

Well, according to my 3 year old son, I have "mommy hair". I got my haircut on Saturday, my usual chin-length bob these days. It took him a couple of hours to notice, but while we were getting dinner ready, he looked at me and said, "Mommy, you got your haircut?". I said, "yes I did". He then says, "Mommy, you have mommy hair". True, so true. I definitely have mommy hair.

While I was at the salon, there was a girl getting her prom-hair done for the prom that night. She had long hair and was clearly getting an "up-do". I actually detest up-do's. Alex, who cuts my hair and OWNS the salon, refuses to them also. I don't blame her. After she finished cutting my hair, the girl getting the up-do says to her mom..."I love her haircut, it's so cute on her". Did she say that because she liked it, or did she want to have "mommy hair" too?

Which brings me to another interesting point. I was talking to my cousin yesterday and we were talking about women's haircuts. His fiance just got her haircut too. Dan likes long hair, as does my cousin-I think a lot of men do. His theory, and I sort of believe it, is that women get their hair cut to impress other women, otherwise they'd keep it long. He thinks the same thing about what women wear. So, ladies, do you dress and style yourself to impress other women or men?

John's more of a mid-range guy. He doesn't like it when my hair gets long (for me, past my shoulders), but my recent cut was a little *too* short for his taste.

Personally, I cut my hair in a style that is easy to take care of and looks decent on me. Whether or not guys or gals like it at this point is moot.

DH likes short hair, and mine is shoulder length. He loves it when I chop it off! I am one of those who does not really get "attached" to my hair-I always say it will grow back. So, I go back and forth between short and long.

I love short hair (around chin length), but DH likes it longer. I've played along for the past 3 years or so, but I'm really getting the urge to chop it off again. Who knows! I've just always been a short, sassy hair girl.

Up dos are for losers. hee hee

I have had the same non-haircut forever. Really, really long. Curly in college, straight now. I am a haircut virgin.

I try to cut/style my hair in a way that looks good on me and is E-A-S-Y---w/2 children at home who has time? I don't do it for my gir friends, though. That is kinda weird and middle-schoolish, no?

I agree. My cousin is convinced other women dress for other women, but I agree that I dress and style for what's best for me. Just wanted to see what everyone out there thought!

I think I dress for other women. Pretty sad...but my "mommy hair" lately consistes of twisting my longish hair and clipping it with a clippy. An updo? More like an out of my face, needs to be washed kinda do! That's my mommy hair!

My husband LOVES long hair, so I am about 1 inch away from being Crystal Gale. I need a haircut so bad...I am going to have to buck "the establishment" and get about 2 inches trimmed off. I style myself for myself first, my husband second and the rest I don't really care. I had a mom call me a "skinny mini" the other day, and another call me "skinny" a few days ago, and it made me really uncomfortable, mainly because there is so much more to me that my flesh and bones!!! (Or so I hope!) If my husband likes long hair, I have no problem "humoring" him with it. And yes, LONG hair that is in desperate need of a color and cut is "Mommy Hair" too! Especially when pulled back into a ratty pony tail!!! You raise a very interesting talking point, indeed!

I have long hair and haven't had "mommy hair" since I chopped it off after mini#1. I hated it. So not me. I think I have it long for me. Who cares if it takes a little extra effort to style. It makes me feel happy.

You don't know me, I just came across your blog today through some other blogs and it's great!! I will add it to my favs. I just got my hair cut short and my sister told me I look like a soccer mom and it just wasn't sexy. So, I think I will have to grow it a little longer or at least put some highlights in it. Stop by my blog sometime!! Have a great day!!!!
